We all know what happened in those surprising days of the NFL Draft 2025 when no team picked up Sheduer Sanders in the first four rounds. But in a recent report by ESPN’s Adam Schefter, it is said that the Baltimore Ravens wanted to draft Hall of Fame football player Deion Sanders’ son. But Sheduer had other plans in his mind.

Sheduer Sanders Didn’t Want to Get Drafted by the Ravens

Adam Schefter reported that the Cleveland Browns QB3 Sanders “didn’t want to be on a roster with Lamar Jackson, where he wouldn’t have a chance to play anytime soon, according to league sources.” So, as Sanders did not want to be in Baltimore, the Ravens instead drafted offensive lineman Carson Vinson with the 141st pick. But three picks later, the Browns drafted Sanders as the 144th pick in the 5th round of the draft.

Ravens planned to take Shedeur Sanders in the fifth round, but before Baltimore could turn in the card, the former Colorado star let it be known that he didn’t want to be on a roster with Lamar Jackson, where he would be a backup. https://t.co/v1om447zHN

However, the decision has backfired to some extent. Sanders has been added to the 53-man roster of the Browns crew, but head coach Kevin Stefanski has decided to give QB Dillon Gabriel his chance to be a backup to 40-year-old veteran QB Joe Flacco. Actually, Sanders’ spot on the 53-man roster was not a cakewalk for him.

As we all know, the Browns had four active QBs in their locker room. But after Kenny Pickett‘s departure to the Las Vegas Raiders and Tyler Huntley‘s release, the Browns could manage to give Sanders a seat on the Browns’ 53-man roster. And this is not the only headache for Sanders as he is marching ahead in his NFL journey. A senior NFL analyst and insider, Greg Cosell, has recently reported on a Ross Tucker podcast on Sept. 4, that Gabriel is the guy who has impressed head coach Stefanski.

Cosell said, “Yeah, well, he [Dillon Gabriel] fits Kevin Stefanski.” And added, “And Stefanski really liked him coming out because of the way in which he plays. Gabriel is purely a timing rhythm player. That’s the way Stefanski sees his offense, and there’s a ton of play action in his offense.” The experts have also said that Sanders should either work on getting traded to other teams, as Joe Flacco would not give him and Gabriel a chance in 2025, and Gabriel is expected to rule the QB room after Flacco’s potential retirement. In another podcast, ESPN’s Cleveland reporter Aaron Goldhammer has said that Flacco could play for all 17 games in the 2025 season.

So, the conclusion is Sanders is currently in boiling water, which indicates he has to either ask for a trade or wait for an opportunity that will give him a surprising spot above Dillon Gabriel.
