Did Aaron Rodgers and the Pittsburgh Steelers face a devastating loss against the Bills on Sunday? The undeniable answer would be Yes, the loss was awful, considering the offensive squad’s stats and the fruitless struggles of the defense.
In the Bills game, per Steelers.com, Rodgers’ team finished the game with only 166 yards of total offense. And this was the lowest of the season and the fewest since Dec. 15 last year, when they gained 163 at Philadelphia when Russell Wilson was leading the offense. On the other hand, the Bills finished with 249 yards rushing, while the Steelers finished with only 58. The Bills led the time of possession, 41:59 to 18:01. They had only 87 yards of total offense in the first half.
And these are the reasons Rodgers is not sparing anyone from his team, especially the pass catchers. After the Sunday game, when he was asked about the struggles in gaining yards, he threw the receivers, specifically those who do not attend meetings and film sessions. “When there’s film sessions, everybody shows up,” A-Rod said. “When I check a route, you do the right route. Jonnu [Smith] and I weren’t on the same page. I checked his in-breaker and he ran an out-breaker. Jonnu is a true professional, so I’m sure he’s sick about that.”
In the entire game, the only touchdown was scored when J.Warren rushed up the middle for 1 yard. Later, C.Boswell scored an extra point. To talk specifically about the receivers, DK Metcalf caught only 3 throws for 32 yards. His current reception yards average is the lowest (13.4) in the past three years, though there are a couple of games left in the schedule. On the other hand, Roman Wilson, no. 10, was targeted one time and did not receive the ball.

But Rodgers did not mention Metcalf or Wilson in his answer; he talked about Jonnu Smith’s inconsistencies in attending film sessions and his ability to have a strong chemistry with the four-time NFL MVP winning quarterback. Smith had only one reception for 6 yards in the entire game. Since the Seahawks game, Smith has never caught more than three passes. “I checked his in-breaker and he ran an out-breaker. Jonnu is a true professional, I’m sure he is sick about that,” Rodgers blurted out his disappointment.
After the disappointing loss, head coach Mike Tomlin also said, “Not a lot needs to be said. That’s an awful performance by us. But it’s us. We didn’t do a lot well tonight, obviously, didn’t possess the ball or maintain ball security on offense. And were highly penalized. We allowed those guys to run the ball. Didn’t play 60 minutes of action. Didn’t play complementary football. So we’ve got to absorb that result. We’re certainly not going to feel sorry for ourselves. That’s just the business we’re in.”
But Tomlin is a professional and experienced head coach who is known for and open to making changes. In his recent media availability, Tomlin is making changes to the offensive tackle position, along with upcoming pass-catching changes and improvements. Let’s see how Aaron Rodgers’ team and defense perform in the next four weeks.
