The Dallas Cowboys are entering a week of uncertainty regarding their star wide receiver, CeeDee Lamb, after he suffered a high ankle sprain in last Sunday’s 31-14 loss against the Chicago Bears. The injury occurred early in the second quarter when Lamb was tackled by linebacker Noah Sewell, who landed on Lamb’s left knee and ankle.

The play, which resulted in a one-yard loss, did not count due to offsetting penalties. Lamb was visibly in pain but walked off the field under his own power and was evaluated in the sideline’s medical tent. He remained on the bench rather than returning to the game and was officially ruled out early in the third quarter.

A few hours after the injury, Ian Rapoport gave insider information on Lamb’s injury. NFL insider Ian Rapoport added further context about the severity of the injury. “My understanding is Cowboys believe this is a high-ankle sprain for CeeDee Lamb,” Rapoport said. “Going to have some tests today (Monday) just to determine the severity. Generally, high-ankle sprains take four to six weeks to heal.” His insight highlights that while Lamb may feel ready, high-ankle sprains typically require careful management and a multi-week recovery period.

And here comes the latest update on how carefully the Cowboys are handling the star wide receiver’s issue. As Lamb himself offered insight into his injury, telling reporters he felt “good” and expected to be ready if the team gives him the green light, the Cowboys’ EVP Stephen Jones has shared a legit information on what will really be done in the next week.

CeeDee Lamb Injury Update: EVP Stephen Gives Week 4 Update

The Athletic’s Jon Machota reported the update, “The Cowboys EVP Stephen Jones said on @1053thefan that CeeDee Lamb has a high ankle sprain. Lamb said after the game yesterday that he’d be able to play next Sunday, but Jones made it sound like they’re gonna wait and see how the week goes before determining that.” He emphasized that he’ll follow the medical staff’s advice and won’t rush back too soon, showing a mix of confidence and caution about returning to the field.

High ankle sprains are notoriously tricky injuries, often requiring careful management to avoid lingering issues. With Lamb being the Cowboys’ top offensive weapon, his health is a key factor for the team as they prepare for Week 4 against the Green Bay Packers. It is said that the team’s measured approach suggests they would rather prioritize long-term health over a rushed return, even if Lamb feels ready to play.

What if Star Lamb Misses Four to Six Weeks?

If Lamb were to miss up to six weeks, the Cowboys’ offense could face a significant challenge. Without their top receiver, Dak Prescott may need to rely more heavily on secondary targets like KaVontae Turpin, Ryan Flournoy, and Jalen Tolbert stepping up in the slot. The team may also turn to an increased focus on the running game and tight ends to fill the void.

But the loss of Lamb’s explosiveness and playmaking ability could result in a noticeable dip in offensive efficiency, particularly in the passing game. Fans will now be closely watching practice reports and updates throughout the week, as the Cowboys weigh the risk of playing Lamb against the potential impact on their offense. Keeping their star receiver healthy could be crucial for the team’s playoff aspirations.
