A lot of shocking things happened in the Washington Commanders game versus the Green Bay Packers on Sept. 11. But among many, the Commanders’ DE’s injury was horrific. The defensive end Deatrich Wise Jr. went down after getting his leg rolled up on. And fans saw that the Commanders players were on their knees praying for Wise just before he was carted off the field. He suffered a quad injury when seven minutes and 34 seconds were left in the second quarter.
But as the diagnosis was in the pipeline after Deatrich Wise’s right leg injury, the saddest injury update of the day has hit the city of Washington- Wise will not return on the field for the whole 2025-26 NFL season. Yes, Deatrich Wise has suffered a season-ending injury, the sources confirmed around midday ET on Sept. 12, 2025.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported on Sept. 12, 2025, that the Washington Commanders’ defensive end Deatrich Wise, who was carted off from Thursday night’s game vs. the Packers, “suffered a season-ending quad injury, per source”.
After the shocking update, DE Deatrich Wise released a statement on his social media profiles. “I’m truly grateful for all the love, prayers, and support I’ve received. This was an unfortunate experience, but when you give so much to the game and do everything you can to improve for yourself and for your team’s success, it can feel like there’s a lot to play for,” Wise’s Instagram statement read.
Wise further wrote, “When you stop, it can feel like everything around you stops too. But I know the best healer. God only puts us through what we can handle, and every challenge carries a lesson. Out of every test comes growth, shaping us into who we need to become to accomplish the goals we set from the start.” He also added, “I’m on a path to becoming the highest version of myself. And on the bright side, I get to spend time with my family and my sons. #wiseup.”
Wise has suffered many injuries throughout his eight-year-long NFL journey so far, per Fox Sports’ data. His latest injury, before the Week 2 injury, was a foot injury that had happened in Week 13 of the 2024 NFL season. Except for the 2025 season-ending quad injury, Deatrich has been questionable 20 times.
The Washington Commanders signed Wise in free agency this offseason. He had been with the New England Patriots for a staggering eight seasons after the Pats had drafted him in the 2017 NFL draft in the fourth round.
