Before the NFL season starts in 66 days and the Dallas Cowboys hit the training camps in two weeks, one of the biggest rumors landed in Texas yesterday. It was all about the Texas native and future Hall of Fame defender Von Miller potentially signing with the Cowboys.

The rumor started after Miller posted an Instagram Story featuring himself in a Cowboys jersey, which caught the attention of NFL fans and Cowboys media. But the speculation lost momentum after a Cowboys insider said the team has “no interest” in adding Miller to its roster and has not even discussed signing him.

Per the Cowboys insider Clarence Hill Jr., there is no report indicating that the Cowboys are actively pursuing Miller. In fact, the reporter said, “The Cowboys, who report to training camp in two weeks, have no interest in adding [Von] Miller to the roster.”

Pouring more cold water on the fueling rumors, NFL insider Jane Slater also reported on July 8 that Miller “is not expected to sign with the Cowboys or be in any talks with them currently.”

Because Miller is a free agent and the Cowboys have been linked to veteran pass rushers in the past, many fans speculated that the post could be a hint about a potential signing. The speculation gained traction on social media, with some suggesting Dallas could add Miller to bolster its pass rush before training camp.

Why does veteran NFL edge rusher Von Miller want to play for the Dallas Cowboys?

Von Miller made his pitch to join the Cowboys not once, but twice this week. In an interview with RJ Ochoa of Blogging The Boys on Monday, he openly expressed his desire to play for his hometown team. Later, on Wednesday, he took to Instagram to share an edited image of himself in a Dallas uniform.

“It would be great to be a Dallas Cowboy. I grew up here in Dallas. I’ve always had a special place in my heart for the Dallas Cowboys,” Miller said, talking about his desire to join the Cowboys. “If I play for the Dallas Cowboys this year, I would only have to drive 20 minutes to work. This would be the first time that my mom and dad don’t have to fly to every single game. My mom has been to every single game that I’ve ever played in, and she’d be able to drive to all the home games, and I have so many family members here. My kids are here… Everybody’s here.”

Basically, he wants to end the travel burden on his parents (especially his mom, who has never missed a game), keep his children close, and surround himself with extended family.

There is one major reason why the Cowboys should sign 37-year-old Miller. That is his production on the gridiron in the NFL.

Throughout his 15-year career in the big leagues, Von has elevated his game to another level. From his first season in 2011, he has made 138.5 sacks, 606 total tackles, and 27 forced fumbles. His latest stellar performance was in 2025, when he was playing for the Washington Commanders. In 2025, he made 26 tackles in total and nine sacks after playing 17 games.

But stats are not the only reason. The Cowboys have often been viewed as a natural fit for Miller because of his strong ties to Texas. He grew up in DeSoto, a suburb just south of Dallas, and played his college football at Texas A&M before becoming an NFL star. Those local connections have fueled speculation that a homecoming could make sense if he continues his career.

However, it all depends on the Cowboys’ decision whether they want Von Miller or not and how they rearrange the cap space for the edge rusher. The current cap space of the Cowboys is only $ 5,498,404, the third-last in the league.

So far, two to three insiders have reported that there is no possibility of the Cowboys signing Miller. Let’s see if the front office makes major changes in their reported decision about the veteran star.
